Empowering Learners
We live in a society in which new ways of thinking, alternative literacies, complementary modes of communication and innovative pedagogies are converging to form social practices that present challenges never before experienced. And yet to many people this much-heralded revolution is barely comprehensible. Virtual learning, artificial intelligence, visual literacy, multi-modal communication, super-computers, on-line gaming, interactive TV … are just a few of the artefacts of this new society. It is important, however, to recognise that the designers and architects of this new world have themselves been nurtured within our present systems of schooling and education.
The question that needs to be asked now is, what type of education is required to prepare future generations for life in the twenty-first century?
At Ealing CLC our aim is to support creative use of new and existing technologies and equip educators, empower students and strengthen communities with the skills and literacies needed now and in the future.
Aims
- Additionality -
to provide all students in Ealing schools access to state of the art facilities and resources, both virtual and physical
- Pedagogy -
to develop models of best practice in the use of ICT across Key Stages and Strategies
- Training -
to enhance and develop teacher ICT skills through embedding ICT in schools
- Excellence in Cities -
to support the aims of the individual strands that make up the EiC initiative
- Business partnership -
to work with local businesses and develop links with organisations to overcome local skills shortages
- Community links -
to address the digital divide with a focus on adult and community education incorporating basic skills needs
Our aim is to promote the application of ICT in the various cultural and creative aspects of mainstream society and in so doing play an effective role in supporting education in the London Borough of Ealing.
Curriculum Model
Our curriculum model takes as its starting point innovation and we have designed a curriculum offer that responds to student and school needs in a digital society. This reflects our aim of promoting the creative use of new and existing technologies and empowering learners with the skills and literacies of the twenty-first century.
